| Spring Update |
[Mar. 26th, 2009|10:15 pm] |
Crossposted from new blog at http://goblinartstudio.blogspot.com :
Preview of feature in FAE magazine
It has been a busy month in the studio, between assorted special orders, preparations for some local craft shows, and assembling photos and interview answers for a forthcoming Goblin Art feature in Faeries and Enchantment (FAE) Magazine!
Earlier this week I met with my wonderful and talented friend Theresa Pridemore for a couple of photoshoots. A glimpse of the outcome is shown above--that is me wearing the iridescent green mask I made last year. That photo and others will be in the FAE magazine article, along with a "How To" article for paper mache wearable horns.
For people in Portland, here are the two events this weekend where my masks and horns will be available: Pagan Faire 2009 http://www.paganfaire.net March 28th, 10am - 5pm World Forestry Center, Portland OR The 7th Annual Vampires Masquerade Ball http://www.vampireballpdx.com March 28th, 9pm - March 29th, 2am Melody Ballroom, Portland, OR (Look for the Goblin Art booth in the vendor hall). I will be running the Pagan Faire booth during the day, and then I will trade off with Rick so he can run the booth at the Vampire Masquerade that evening.
Then the following weekend I will be vending in Tacoma, WA:
2009 Spring Fairy Festival http://www.springfairyfestival.com April 4th, Noon - 8pm Freighthouse Square, 25th St., Tacoma, WA
If you are not in the Pacific Northwest but are thinking about special ordering a mask for Spring and Summer events, please hurry--my Spring production schedule is almost full! I do still have plenty of openings for late Summer mask orders, (after Faerieworlds).
I hope you are all having a lovely Spring! |

Expect more photos and information about my art, my artistic techniques, and the various studio inner-workings from now on! You'll also find out more about some of my other interests and obsessions.
I hope you'll enjoy visiting my new corner of the web.

| The Goblin Art Etsy store is up! |
[Nov. 4th, 2008|05:16 pm] |
I have a few horns and pendants already listed. Look for a few masks and some fancier horns to be listed over the next few days! Also need to fix up the store banner, the current one is just a quicky.
The link is http://goblinart.etsy.com
Livejournal doesn't seem to support javascript, so I can't give you a nice, clickable view of the store here.

[Oct. 16th, 2008|12:39 pm] |
Just a quick update here...
Unfortunately we recently had to close the studio for three weeks without warning. Rick's mother just passed away, but we were very fortunate to be able to spend her last few days with her and with the rest of the Sears family in Ohio.
The maskmaking workshops have also been canceled because of this, but if there is enough interest from people who would still like to take one after Halloween, I will reschedule them.
We are back in Portland now, and I have a limited amount of time available to spend in the studio. I would still like to get the Etsy store open soon, but Halloween is almost upon us, so it might better serve folks who were thinking of masks and horns for the Holiday and New Year's season. We shall see. I'll certainly post here to let you know as soon as the store is open.
I have also decided to return the website to the original "Goblin Art" format. I look forward to pursuing more gallery exhibition at a future time, but right now with the uncertainty of the economy, it seemed prudent to return to web-store sales.
My apologies for any email or comments I am behind on replying to, I'll try to get caught up with those soon. |

| Good news and bad news |
[Aug. 16th, 2008|06:59 pm] |
The bad news is that the maskmaking class will probably have to wait until after Halloween. There is some unpredictable stuff happening in Rick's schedule in September and October, which complicates his ability to trade off looking after the baby. In other words: no childcare = no mask classes.
The good news however, is despite my prior declarations to abandon web sales, I am considering opening a mask store on Etsy.com especially for Halloween 2008! Check back here for updates on this topic. |

| Classes |
[Jul. 21st, 2008|09:54 pm] |

I am considering offering a maskmaking class in Portland in October. It would likely consist of three to five 2hr sessions, and would be targeted to adults and possibly kids over 12. Not sure if it would be evenings or weekends. I'm interested in your feedback... |

| Bottom's mask for Midsummer Night's Dream this Saturday |
[Jul. 21st, 2008|09:41 pm] |
The Water in the Desert Festival is doing a Butoh adaption of Midsummer Night's Dream. It sounds fascinating, so even though I am not officially taking commissions right now, I was very excited to make them a donkey mask for Bottom's transformation...

( See more pictures, and some of the process... )
Water in the Desert Festival Art, Ritual, Performance, Ecology July 26, 2008, 1-10PM Peninsula Park 700 N. Rosa Parks Way Portland, OR
THIS IS A FREE EVENT!
The Midsummer Night's Dream performance starts at 7pm, amongst the roses. |

| New Website |
[Jun. 11th, 2008|03:00 pm] |

The first draft of the new website is up. I still have to tweak the link colors, and how the tables display in Firefox. It is not a fancy website, really just more of a token online presence. There is no web store presently, and I'm not sure if I will reopen that in future. The plan is actually for the business to be much less web-oriented from now on, which will hopefully give me the time to make some new art. Prior to my closing the studio last year, it was a real battle to keep up with web orders as well as produce new, original works. And with a new family member, there is less studio time altogether! But masks and horns will continue to be available from a few of my retailers, I just won't be handling the paperwork and shipping for individual orders anymore.
Also trying to decide if I will eventually move this journal over to a WordPress installation on my webserver, somehow I have a notion that it would look more professional? If I could make WordPress entries automatically feed over to this Livejournal account, I would be thrilled.
Make sure to check my Shows and Exhibitions page to find out about a couple of Portland shows I am currently producing pieces for. |

Dear Friends of Goblin Art,
The online store is currently closed, however many of my "Goblin Art" masks and wearable horns are still available from these retailers .
I have decided to take some time off from the business while I am busy with my husband's and my latest project, our wonderful baby boy!
I still hope to be able to spend a little bit of time in the studio though, with the goal of creating a few high-end, one-of-a-kind art masks for gallery exhibition. Some of these masks will also be exhibited online, when I launch my new website later this year.
Wishing you all the very best, -Monica Roxburgh

Another maskmaker whose website you might like to visit while Goblin Art is closed:
Mad Stoat Maskworks Custom Paper Faces by Devin Van Domelin www.madstoat.com/masks
Devin interned with Monica in 2003, and since then she has been making some fantastic masks using many of the same techniques as used to create Goblin Art masks.
Devin's masks may be purchased through her website. |

The studio will be closed October 15th 2007 through February 15th 2008.
However, my "Goblin Art" line of masks and wearable horns is still available from the retailers listed at http://www.goblinart.com/retail.html .
Otherwise, see you in the Spring when I launch my new website featuring high-end, one-of-a-kind art masks!

[Oct. 5th, 2007|09:56 pm] |
The recent shopping cart problem should be fixed! My apologies to anyone who has had trouble adding more than one item to their order.
And don't forget, there are just 9 days left to order horns for Halloween! (Goblin Art will be closed October 15th 2007 - February 15th 2008).
The online store is here: http://www.goblinart.com/king-cart/index.html
Hope you are all enjoying getting ready for the Halloween season! |

| 9/20/07 Pirate Festival update |
[Sep. 20th, 2007|11:44 am] |
Monica is very sorry, but due to health reasons and family commitments she has had to pull out from vending at the Portland Pirate Festival this year.
But her booth-mates at the "Six Days At Sea" pavilion will still be there, with a fabulous assortment of hand-crafted pirate and nautical themed art and attire for your perusal. |

| Our apologies for apparent tea party confusion |
[Sep. 10th, 2007|04:46 pm] |
I must apologize for the confusion about the tea party's location. ( Read more... )
Anyhow, I sincerely hope that anyone who came looking for us and could not find us, or ended up at that other (non-tea-drinking) event by mistake might find it possible to forgive us for mistakes in the organization of our very first event. Please consider trying to join us again next year when we plan the next one.

| Goblin Art online store update |
[Sep. 6th, 2007|01:48 pm] |
Just added to the Goblin Art online store: a few more sets of small horns, twisty horns, and a couple of feathered half masks.
I won't add any more new masks to the store until the end of the month (after the Pirate Festival), but I will continue to add new horns when I can! |
